Sts Peter and Paul, Apostles

1 candle lit

Peter was a Galilean fisherman whom Jesus called from his nets and named the rock on which he would build his Church. He denied knowing Jesus, yet was forgiven and told to feed his lambs and sheep. Paul was a devout Pharisee who opposed the first Christians until his conversion on the road to Damascus, and he then taught that the Gentiles were welcome. Tradition holds that both died as martyrs in Rome under Nero. Their feast is June 29. Light a free candle for anyone who has failed and begun again. Sts Peter and Paul, pray for us.
