Sts Perpetua and Felicity, Martyrs of Carthage
1 candle lit
Perpetua, a young noblewoman, and Felicity, a slave, died as martyrs in the arena at Carthage in North Africa in the year 203, under Emperor Septimius Severus. Perpetua wrote an account of her imprisonment and trial, and an eyewitness finished it after her death. Felicity gave birth to a daughter only a few days before the games. One was a lady and one a slave, and they faced the arena together as equals in the faith. Their feast is March 7. Light a free candle for mothers and for prisoners. Sts Perpetua and Felicity, pray for us.
