Sts Marcellinus and Peter, martyrs of Rome
1 candle lit
Sts Marcellinus and Peter were martyrs in Rome around 304, in the persecution under the Emperor Diocletian. Marcellinus was a priest and Peter an exorcist. Both were beheaded. Little more is known, but the Church has not forgotten them: their names are in the Roman Canon at Mass, and Constantine built a basilica over their burial crypt. Pope Damasus wrote an epitaph for them, drawing on the executioner's own account. Their feast is June 2. Light a free candle for those who stand firm quietly. Sts Marcellinus and Peter, pray for us.
