St Vincent Ferrer, Dominican Preacher

1 candle lit

Vincent Ferrer was born in Valencia in 1350 and entered the Dominicans at 19. In the Western Schism he came to judge that Benedict XIII was not the true pope and said so from the pulpit, even while ill. For his last 20 years he preached across Spain, France, Switzerland, the Low Countries and Lombardy, calling people to repent. He became known as the Angel of the Judgment. He died in Vannes in Brittany on April 5, 1419, and is a patron of builders. His feast is April 5. Light a free candle for anyone seeking to make peace. St Vincent, pray for us.
