St Thomas Aquinas, the Angelic Doctor

1 candle lit

Thomas Aquinas (1225 to 1274) was a Dominican friar who taught in Paris. As a boy he was placed at the abbey of Monte Cassino, where his parents hoped he would one day be abbot. He joined the Dominicans instead in 1243, and his family held him at home for over a year. His Summa Theologiae covers the whole of Catholic theology. After Mass on December 6, 1273 he stopped writing, saying it all seemed like straw. His feast is January 28. Light a free candle for a student facing exams. St Thomas Aquinas, pray for us.
