St Stanislaus of Krakow, Patron of Poland
1 candle lit
Stanislaus was born near Krakow in 1030 and became its bishop in 1072. He was a fearless preacher who spoke out against the unjust wars and the immoral conduct of King Boleslaus II, and when the king would not change, he excommunicated him. Tradition says the soldiers sent to kill him refused, so the king killed Stanislaus himself in 1079. He is the patron saint of Poland. His feast is April 11. Light a free candle for anyone who must speak the truth at a cost. St Stanislaus, pray for us.
