St John of Capistrano

1 candle lit

John was born in 1386 and was governor of Perugia in his twenties. After being imprisoned following a battle, he decided to change his life completely, and he became a Franciscan at thirty. He preached across central Europe, helped settle disputes within his order, and in 1456 led the army that won the victory at Belgrade against the Turks. He died on 23 October 1456 and is the patron saint of judges. His feast is October 23. Light a free candle for judges and for all who seek justice. St John, pray for us.
