St John, Apostle and Evangelist

1 candle lit

John was a fisherman, the son of Zebedee and the brother of James, and one of the Twelve. He is called the disciple whom Jesus loved. He was with Peter and James at the Transfiguration, and he stood at the foot of the cross, where Jesus entrusted his mother to his care. Tradition places his later years at Ephesus, where he is said to have repeated to the end, "Little children, love one another." His feast is December 27. Light a free candle for friends and for those who sit beside someone in sorrow. St John, pray for us.
