St Jean Vianney, the Curé of Ars
1 candle lit
Jean Vianney was born in 1786 at Dardilly, near Lyon. Study did not come easily: he struggled with Latin and needed a private tutor before he could be ordained. Yet he became the parish priest of Ars, where he spent eleven or twelve hours a day in the confessional in winter and as many as sixteen in summer. He died in 1859 and was canonized in 1925. His feast is August 4. Light a free candle for parish priests and for anyone who finds learning a struggle. St Jean Vianney, pray for us.
