St Hilary of Poitiers, Bishop and Doctor
1 candle lit
Hilary was raised a pagan and became a Christian after meeting God in the Scriptures. He was married when the people of Poitiers in France chose him, against his will, as their bishop. When many bishops followed Arianism, he held fast to the truth that Christ is God, and Emperor Constantius exiled him to Phrygia from 356 to 360. There he began writing On the Trinity. He died around 367 and was named a Doctor of the Church in 1851. His feast is January 13. Light a free candle for anyone whose faith is being tested. St Hilary, pray for us.
