St Frances of Rome, Mother and Foundress

1 candle lit

Frances was born in Rome in 1384 to a wealthy family. Her parents arranged her marriage to a young nobleman, and she became the mother of two sons and a daughter. When plague took her second son, she sold her possessions to buy supplies for the sick and begged door to door. After her daughter died she turned part of her home into a hospital. She founded a society of women who served the poor. She died in 1440 and is a patron of widows and motorists. Her feast is March 9. Light a free candle for anyone caring for the sick. St Frances, pray for us.
