St Cyril of Jerusalem, Bishop and Teacher

Cyril was bishop of Jerusalem in the fourth century. He is remembered above all for his Catechetical Lectures, 23 talks given in Jerusalem, eighteen for people preparing for baptism and five for the newly baptized. Arian opponents drove him out of his see more than once, and he spent many years in exile before returning to lead his people. He died around 386 and was named a Doctor of the Church in 1883.
