Clement was the third successor of St Peter in Rome and is counted among the five Apostolic Fathers, who link the Apostles to later teachers of the Church. He wrote a letter to the church in Corinth, urging charity to heal a division between laity and clergy. He is remembered as a martyr who died around the year 99 or 101. Rome's Basilica of St Clement is probably built on the site of his home. His feast is November 23. Light a free candle for peace in divided communities. St Clement, pray for us.
