St Casimir, Prince of Poland
1 candle lit
Casimir was a prince, the son of the king of Poland. As a teenager he lived simply, sleeping on the ground and spending much of the night in prayer. Sent by his father to Hungary with an army, he turned home when his troops were outnumbered, and later he refused to marry the emperor's daughter. He died of lung disease at 25 while visiting Lithuania and is buried in Vilnius. He is a patron of Lithuania and Poland. His feast is March 4. Light a free candle for young people who choose a quiet life of faith. St Casimir, pray for us.
