St Bridget of Sweden, Wife, Mother and Widow
1 candle lit
Bridget was a Swedish noblewoman who married Ulf Gudmarsson as a teenager. They had eight children, among them St Catherine of Sweden, and the marriage lasted until his death in 1344. As a widow she gave away her possessions and recorded the visions she received, collected in eight books called the Revelations. She founded the Order of the Most Holy Saviour at Vadstena and died in Rome in 1373. In 1999 Pope John Paul II named her a co-patroness of Europe. Her feast is July 23. Light a free candle for families and for widows. St Bridget, pray for us.
