For a special intention

St Blaise, Bishop and Martyr of Sebastea

1 candle lit

Blaise was a bishop of Sebastea in Armenia who died a martyr around the year 316. Little is certain about his life, and the Acts that tell his story were written about four hundred years later. Tradition says that when a mother brought him her son with a fish bone stuck in his throat, he healed the boy. So he is the patron of throat ailments, and also of wool combers. On his feast many parishes bless throats with two crossed candles. His feast is February 3. Light a free candle for anyone who is sick or struggling to speak. St Blaise, pray for us.
