St Bartholomew, Apostle

Bartholomew was one of the twelve apostles, named in each list of the Twelve in the New Testament. Some scholars identify him with Nathanael, the man from Cana whom Philip brought to Jesus. Jesus greeted him with the words, "Here is a true Israelite. There is no duplicity in him." Nathanael answered, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel." Little more is told of him in Scripture. His feast is August 24. Light a free candle for honest people and for plasterers. St Bartholomew, pray for us.
