Augustine was born in 354 at Tagaste in North Africa. His mother, Monica, was a strong Christian influence while he taught rhetoric and followed other beliefs. After a turning point in a garden in Milan in 386, he was baptized by Bishop Ambrose at Easter 387. He became bishop of Hippo in 396 and wrote the Confessions, in which he says our hearts are restless until they rest in God. He died in 430 as the Vandals besieged his city. His feast is August 28.
