St Anthony Zaccaria, physician and priest
1 candle lit
St Anthony Zaccaria was born in Cremona in 1502 and trained as a physician. His mother, widowed at eighteen, devoted herself to his spiritual education. He became a priest at 26 and founded three religious groups, one for men known as the Barnabites, one for women and one for married couples. He promoted frequent Communion, the Forty Hours devotion and a bell rung at three on Fridays. He died in 1539, aged 36. His feast is July 5. Light a free candle for doctors and for mothers. St Anthony Zaccaria, pray for us.
