St Anthony Mary Claret

1 candle lit

Anthony Claret was born in Spain in 1807. He founded the Claretian missionaries and a major Catholic publishing house, and he reformed the archdiocese of Santiago in Cuba, where he is remembered as its spiritual father. A hired assassin once slashed his face and wrist. Anthony had earlier secured the man's release from prison, and he later won a reduced sentence for him. He died in exile near the Spanish border in 1870. His feast is October 24. Light a free candle for forgiveness and for those who spread the faith in print. St Anthony Mary, pray for us.
