Anselm was born around 1033 in Aosta in Italy. At 15 he was refused entry to a monastery because his father opposed it,. He later entered the abbey of Bec in Normandy, became its abbot and made it a famous school. In 1093 he was named archbishop of Canterbury against his will, and quarrels with the kings of England sent him into exile. He wrote the Proslogion and Cur Deus Homo, using reason to explore the faith. He died on April 21, 1109. His feast is April 21. Light a free candle for students and teachers. St Anselm, pray for us.
