St Ambrose of Milan
1 candle lit
St Ambrose was the Roman governor of Milan, and not yet baptised, when the people called for him to be their bishop in 374. He gave himself to his flock, preached with warmth, wrote hymns for his people to sing and stood firm against false teaching. His faith and preaching helped bring St Augustine to Christ, and Ambrose baptised him. He died in 397 and is honoured as a Doctor of the Church and a patron of Milan and of beekeepers. His feast is December 7. Light a free candle for your bishop, your parish or someone searching for faith. St Ambrose, pray for us.
