St Aloysius Gonzaga, Patron of Youth
1 candle lit
Aloysius was born in 1568, a prince's son who grew up in royal courts and army camps and served as a page to Philip II of Spain. By eleven he was teaching catechism to poor children. After a four-year struggle with his father, who wanted a soldier, he gave up his inheritance and joined the Jesuits. During a plague in Rome he nursed the sick, caught the disease, and died on June 21, 1591, aged 23. He is patron of Catholic youth. His feast is June 21. Light a free candle for young people and those who care for the sick. St Aloysius, pray for us.
