1 candle lit

Albert was born around 1206, the eldest son of a wealthy German military lord, and joined the Dominicans despite strong opposition from his family. He taught at Paris and Cologne and wrote a wide ranging collection of knowledge. He helped the Church engage with the philosophy of Aristotle, which made room for his student Thomas Aquinas. He died on 15 November 1280. He is a Doctor of the Church and a patron of scientists and philosophers. His feast is November 15. Light a free candle for students and scientists.
