St Agnes of Rome

1 candle lit

Agnes was a girl of Rome, only about twelve or thirteen years old, who died as a martyr in the early centuries of the Church. Little is known for certain and accounts of her death differ. Tradition says she refused every suitor and was arrested for being a Christian, and she did not give way. Her courage so young has made her a patron of girls and of Girl Scouts. Her feast is January 21. Light a free candle for a young person who needs courage. St Agnes, pray for us.
